Description

The insulated EZE-Sleeve® Repair Sleeve offers repair shops an innovative 2-in-1 solution for electrical machine engineering. It not only restores the fitting accuracy of damaged end shields quickly and precisely, but simultaneously solves a critical problem in modern drive technology: it reliably protects the bearings of variable frequency drive (VFD) motors against damaging breakdowns caused by high-frequency bearing and eddy currents.

Your Benefits: Maximum plant safety at minimal costs

Electrical discharges in the bearing (EDM effect) lead to fluting, lubricant degradation, and ultimately to premature bearing failure. With the isolated EZE-Sleeve®, you proactively prevent this risk during repair:

  • Reliable Insulation Protection: A highly specialized, abrasion-resistant coating interrupts the current flow between the housing and the bearing outer ring. This effectively protects frequency-controlled motors from the destructive effects of parasitic currents.
  • Superior Material Properties: The insulation layer features excellent dielectric strength, combined with high thermal resistance and exceptional mechanical resilience under radial load.
  • Significant Cost Savings: Retrofitting an end shield with an isolated EZE-Sleeve® is economically much more attractive than the continuous procurement of expensive, current-insulated special ball bearings (e.g., with ceramic coating).
  • Process-Optimized Repair: You repair the mechanical wear of the bearing seat and retrofit the insulation in a single, efficient work step. This minimizes downtime and increases the added value of your workshop services.

Installation Guide: Professional Assembly of Isolated Housing Repair Sleeves

Exact installation is strictly necessary to permanently ensure electrical breakdown protection. Important Note: Under no circumstances should you machine the sleeve before it is firmly installed in the end shield.

  1. Prepare the Housing: Bore out the housing until the isolated sleeve slides in exactly. A slip fit of 0.008" to 0.010" (approx. 0.2 mm to 0.25 mm) should be achieved.
  2. Adapt the Contact Surface: Bore the rear face surface 1/16" (approx. 1.6 mm) deeper to create enough space for the nylon spacer.
  3. Assembly and Bonding: Insert the nylon spacer. Clean the sleeve thoroughly with acetone and prepare it according to the manufacturer's instructions for the adhesive (e.g., "Loctite 620"). Apply the Loctite and slide the isolated sleeve into the prepared bore.
  4. Curing and Finishing: Allow the adhesive to cure completely (approx. 24 hours) before boring the inner diameter (I.D.). Only then should the inner diameter of the sleeve be bored to the fitting dimension required for the new ball bearing.

Additional Steps when using a Bearing Cap

If a bearing retainer (bearing cap) is used in your application, it must also be isolated. Proceed as follows:

  • Install the lower washer into the bored end shield.
  • Remove 1/16" (approx. 1.6 mm) from the face of the bearing cap to create room for the upper washer.
  • Cut off a piece of the protruding sleeve to the length required for the bearing cap. This element is used as a spacer to position the bearing cap exactly in the center.
  • Add the spacer to the bearing cap and face the top of the sleeve to the required depth.
  • Finally, install the upper washer.
