Description

Especially with large electric motors, generators, and industrial plants, replacing damaged end shields or housings is extremely cost- and time-intensive. The EZE-Sleeve® Oversized Repair Sleeves offer the technologically and economically optimal solution for this. They were specially developed for motors that have previously been sleeved, or to correct errors from previous boring. They enable a precise, fast, and permanent repair of dimensions that go far beyond the standard – without compromising fitting accuracy, thermal management, or the structural integrity of the plant.

Your Benefits: Economy meets highest precision

Machining large components requires the highest reliability in material and handling. Our oversized EZE-Sleeves® ensure decisive competitive advantages in your workshop:

  • Second Chance for Housings: The oversized sleeves are manufactured with an outside diameter (O.D.) that is exactly 1 mm (0.040") larger. This allows the old bore to be slightly expanded to repair the motor a second time in a cost-effective and time-saving manner.
  • Massive Cost Savings: Preserving and repairing the original large end shield is economically far more sensible and resource-friendly than an expensive new purchase with long delivery times.
  • Outstanding Machinability & Dimensional Stability: Thanks to the optimized cast iron quality, the sleeves can be machined excellently and without scoring. This guarantees an absolutely tight bearing seat without microscopic peaks that could flatten under heavy load.
  • Reliable Thermal Management: The repair sleeves ensure excellent heat dissipation from the highly stressed bearing area. This prevents thermal stresses and significantly extends the service life of large rolling bearings.
  • Reduced Downtime: Thanks to the efficient process without complex overlay welding, the motor is ready for operation again as quickly as possible.

Installation Guide: Professional Assembly of Oversized EZE-Sleeves®

For a precise repair of large components, we recommend clamping the end shield in a 4-jaw chuck to ensure exact centering (axial and radial run-out) using a dial indicator.

  1. Dimension Determination: Measure the outside diameter (O.D.) of the oversized sleeve at two to three different points and calculate the average value.
  2. Boring the Housing (Press Fit): Since this sleeve is 1 mm larger, bore out the old bore further accordingly. Aim for an undersize to achieve a press fit. As a rule of thumb: 0.0005" per 1" of sleeve diameter (for example, for sleeves under 100 mm this corresponds to a press fit of approx. 0.05 mm or 0.002").
  3. Mounting the Sleeve (Thermal Shrink-Fitting Recommended): Ideally, cool the sleeve significantly with liquid CO2. The sleeve shrinks by a few thousandths and can be inserted into the housing without resistance. As it warms to room temperature, it anchors itself microscopically firmly in the cast iron (offers 3 times the holding power of a purely mechanical press fit). Alternative methods: Pressing in via the lathe tailstock, a hydraulic press, or careful tapping.
  4. Test Step & Dimension Check: A small edge typically protrudes from the mounted sleeve. Initially, bore out only this protruding edge as a test and adjust the tool feed until the required final bearing dimension is exactly reached.
  5. Finishing (Boring): Now bore the entire inner diameter of the sleeve to the final ball bearing dimension using a fine feed. If necessary, light polishing/sanding may be required for absolute dimensional accuracy.
  6. Completion: Cut off the protruding edge of the sleeve and turn a slight chamfer to facilitate the subsequent assembly of the ball bearing. The housing is now ready for installation.
