They are particularly abrasion-resistant and durable because the color is applied into the very hard oxide layer created during anodizing. The subsequent sealing process irreversibly encloses the print in the anodized pore filled with hydroxide. This very high scratch resistance and absolute solvent resistance makes anodized nameplates and labels particularly robust and durable, even under harsh conditions (e.g., seawater or industrial atmospheres).
